Mego Type 2 / Doc Mego Restrung For Better Poseability
As promised I'm posting a re-stringing tutorial with my technique and style. Keep in mind this is the method I've used for over 30 years (I started with rubber bands back then) and now use elastic cord on all my figures...over 100 8" Mego type figures. Additionally, for holding weapons i like to use the BBP with the Swivel arms. Hope you guys find this video helpful feel free to ask questions.
Quick Footnote: The word "Marinate" in the video clip means for the elastic cord to settle in and expand...for a few days. This Video is unscripted, so please bare with me. LOL Ivaniski
Shrink a Super Friends FTC head - Mike Miller
FTC minor fixes here for all us that hate the big head, a solution found without repainting heads after an acetone shrink. I turned this Black Vulcan head upside down poured acetone in the put a plug etc. In left it overnight and let it dry out and seeing is believing...now all the big heads can be easily fixed...
I used this and stuck in the end of the head and taped it closed..
And one time only 3/4 full not all the way to the top

DIY - How to use Rit All Purpose Liquid Dye
My recipe for a single Mego item:
Note: I lay down paper towels under bowls in case of splashing. Also don't add hot water to second bowl. Wait the 20 minutes after first process or the water will cool down.
Here is what you will need:
16 oz water (tap or distilled)
Dish Detergent
Stainless steel pot/saucepan, the size should be something you can cook a single can of soup in.
3-4 caps full of Rit DyeMore Color Dye
1/4 cup white vinegar
2 caps full of ColorStay
Metal spoon
Paper Towels (To catch splashing)
1 Timer
Dying Process:
Start off fill the pot/saucepan with about 16 oz of hot water and turn on the burners to heat. I like to use an electric stove/burner so you can control the heat. Keep the heat very low at like a 2 or 2.5.Add 1/4 cup of white vinegar
Add 1 drop of dish detergent
Add about 3-4 caps full of Rit DyeMore dye. It depends on color. Use dipped paper towel to measure color.
Run the fabric under hot water before placing in pot. The heat will allow the fabric to hold the color better because the fibers of the fabric will open from the heat.
Once its been ran under hot water place the fabric in the dye mix and stir it for about 20 minutes. I use a timer for this. Keep stirring the whole time.
When the time is up remove the fabric and now run it under cold running water. This will help trap the color in the fibers of the fabric.
Colorstay Process: (Optional)
Start with about 16 oz of clear hot water in a clean saucepan/potAdd 2 caps full of Colorstay then mix.
Take the dyed fabric out of the dye bowl and set in Colorstay bowl.
Stir it occasionally for another 20 minutes. Timer used again
Remove fabric and rinse under cold water until it runs clear.
Allow to air dry.
If dying fabric use Rit Dye. If Dying Rubber or plastics, use Rit Dyemore following the same steps as above
